As history has it, the 18th Amendment in 1920 brought us Prohibition. Speakeasies were born and the public at large were even more enthralled with what they couldn't have. Cocktails were becoming all the rage in the suburban area as well as some of the more up market establishments in town. Bathtub Gin was made in the home. Women were quite accustomed to entertaining friends and family in their homes and low and behold, The cocktail party was born.
The most popular decade for cocktail parties was probably the 1950's, with the help of Hollywood's glamorization. Popularity fell off in the 1960's and the trend towards a much more casual lifestyle. Dawn the 1990's and the motto is "to drink better,
not more". Or simply put another way "Quality over quantity".
